"When words fail, music speaks. But when music fails that's when dance begins."
Delaney's love for storytelling extends past the stage. She has always had a love for writing and reading, and has been praised for her writing since she was young. At the height of the pandemic, when Delaney was eleven years old, she turned to writing her own plays and books. After all . . . if nobody had any shows for her to act in at the moment, that was certainly not going to stop her from acting.
As it would turn out, writing is one of her greatest passions. Her teachers saw great promise in her and encouraged her to keep going in her work as a writer, which she continues to do through short stories, plays, persuasive essays, and books. Delaney uses her voice as a writer to advocate for social justice and tell stories that she believes the world needs to hear. Stay tuned to read some of her writing!
When Delaney was a little kid, her Grandma nicknamed her "Sparkle Plenty," because of how her eyes light up and sparkle when she's happy. Delaney loved her Grandma more than anything, and the name just stuck. Here are a few things that make her sparkle...
✨ New York City.
✨ Musical Theater (duh).
✨ Pandas (her spirit animal)!
✨ Her pets, family, and friends.
✨ Any new challenge or dream to chase.
✨ Coffee, matcha, chai, boba, mocktails, ALL THE DRINKS!
✨ Christmas! (Which can start as early as November 1st, by the way).
Delaney has always been drawn to the vulnerable nature of performing, and her willingness to sit with the uncomfortable has helped her to connect with not only the characters she plays but the audiences at her shows. As a person, Delaney's emotional depth has always been a big part of who she is, and she is thrilled to get to turn that sensitivity into a superpower and share it onstage. Empaths unite!
If there's one thing Delaney Amelia has a lot of, it's dreams:
✨ Attend and graduate from a BFA program for musical theater.
✨ Have a fulfilling career in professional theater.
✨ Perform in at least one Broadway show.
✨ Play Nessarose in Wicked (and some other dream roles.)
✨ Become a certified intimacy coordinator.
✨ Publish at least one book or play.
And you'd better believe she's going to work her ass off and achieve every single one of them.
Delaney looks at the world with a sense of wonder. If you ask her what she loves about acting, she'll tell you that nothing brings her more joy than getting to connect with other people and PLAY! She is all about chasing joy and finding happiness in everyday moments, and few things bring her more joy than being onstage and telling a story. Delaney's favorite place in the world is New York City, and she can't wait to move there once she graduates high school.
Aside from performing, she's happiest in her pink sparkly Converse, with a coffee drink of some sort in her hand, and surrounded by the people who make her giggle so hard she can't breathe (Mama and Sophia, she's looking at you.)
The core of Delaney's work as a performer and person is centered around the concept of humanity. Even the seemingly least complicated people are still incredibly complex, and this is Delaney's approach to all of her work. Delaney identifies as a feminist and has focused on exploring what it means to play deeply human and multidimensional women. She aims to be the representation for curvy girls onstage that she would have loved to see as a kid (and no, she does not ever want to play Tracy Turnblad in Hairspray, thank you for asking.)
